Guns
It’s compulsory to hand over the Guardia Civil office a medical certificate in order to be able to have and handle a gun. This medical certificate will prove that you meet the physical and psychological requirements.
These official documents are required to obtain and renew the gun’s licence of:
- Category 1: handguns and revolvers, and over 60 years old licence endorsement.
- Category 2: long fire guns for surveillance and security, game hunting guns and shotguns.
- Category 3: sport shooting, smoothbore guns, and airguns.
- Category 7: 7.2 crossbow and 7.3 other
If you need to process your gun’s visa, we’ll take care of it so that you don’t have to go to Comandancia de la Guardia Civil. This service is free.
You will need to bring:

TYPES OF GUNS LICENCES
Licence A
Guns used by the army staff, national security and customs surveillance team.
Licence B
Category 1 guns: hand guns and revolvers. People over 60 years will have to endorse this licence every 2 years, and people over 70 years, will have to do so every year. The maximum extension for this licence will be of 3 years for people under 60 years.
To obtain the licence, you will need to explain and justify what you need it for besides all the legal documents.
Licence C
Private security and surveillance staff, explosive guards and rural keepers.
This licence will be only applicable when the person is on duty, hence when the person isn’t working it won’t be applicable.
Licence D
Up to 5 long fire guns for game hunting. Its validity is for 5 years for people under 60 years, 2 years for people over 60, and 1 year for people over 70 years old.
To obtain it, you must pass a theory test –about your knowledge of guns and its regulation- and a practical exam –to test your handling abilities-.
Licence E
Sport shooting guns, shotguns for hunting, airguns, crossbows and others. The maximum number of guns permitted is 12 per person.
People over 60 years will have to endorse the licence every 2 years, and people over 70 years, will have to every year. The maximum extension for this licence will be of 3 years for people under 60 years.
To obtain it, you must pass a theory test –about your knowledge of guns and its regulation- and a practical exam –to test your handling abilities-.
Licence F
For sport shooters who use this guns in permitted fields. Depending on the shooter’s level, this licence can be:
- 1st class: 10 guns maximum.
- 2nd class: 6 guns maximum.
- 3rd class: either a short gun or a long gun.
To obtain this licence, you will have to justify what you need it for and will have to endorse your permit for sport shooting, as well as you shooting history.
Moreover, you will have to pass a theory test –about your knowledge of guns and its regulation- and a practical exam –to test your handling abilities-.
Its validity is for 3 years. In the case you haven’t used it for more than one year, then you will lose it.
Licence AEM
Permission for under age people.
To obtain it, the candidate must pass a theory test –about your knowledge of guns and its regulation- and a practical exam –to test your handling abilities-.
